Counter-Strike 2’s viewership ceiling keeps rising. The 2026 edition of IEM Cologne has become the most-watched tournament in the game’s short history, fueled by two massive playoff matches that each drew over two million concurrent viewers. The semifinal between Team Spirit and Team Falcons set a new peak of 2,216,902 spectators, surpassing the previous tournament high set just 24 hours earlier. That earlier mark of 2,068,534 came when Spirit eliminated G2 Esports in the quarterfinals. Both numbers now sit above the highest peak from the first CS2 Major, PGL Major Copenhagen 2024, which topped out around 1.85 million viewers during its grand final.

The two record-breaking matches happened within a single day of each other, underscoring the intensity of Cologne’s playoff bracket. Spirit’s run through the knockout stage generated enormous interest, first by taking down G2—one of the most popular teams in the scene—and then by facing Falcons, a squad packed with star power. Each match pulled in a crowd that would have been the biggest in CS2 history before this week. The previous all-time record for the game belonged to the Copenhagen Major, but Cologne blew past that figure by a margin of roughly 370,000 viewers. news
