Chennai crowd had plenty to cheer about as Chennai Super Kings put up a competitive total of 180/7 against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Match 63 of the Indian Premier League 2026.
After a blazing start from Sanju Samson, it was Dewald Brevis who played the most impactful innings of the night. The young South African looked in sublime touch and gave CSK the momentum they needed in the middle overs.
For anyone searching Go Exchange Kya Hai, this match was another perfect example of why IPL games remain so unpredictable and exciting from start to finish.
Sanju Samson Gives CSK a Flying Start CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad chose to bat first after winning the toss at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.
Sanju Samson came out with positive intent and attacked from the very first ball. He smashed Nitish Kumar Reddy for a six straight down the ground and followed it up with a series of crisp boundaries.
Samson raced to 27 off just 13 balls and looked set for a big innings. However, Pat Cummins provided SRH with an early breakthrough when Samson edged one behind to Ishan Kishan.
Despite the wicket, CSK had already gained momentum.
Urvil Patel Falls After Brief Fireworks Young opener Urvil Patel continued his aggressive approach and struck two massive sixes off Cummins.
His innings was short but entertaining. Sakib Hussain deceived him with a slower off-cutter that kept low and crashed into the stumps.
Patel scored 13 from 8 balls and CSK slipped to two wickets down inside the powerplay.
Kartik Sharma Keeps the Pressure On Kartik Sharma ensured CSK did not lose control of the innings.
He attacked both pace and spin, playing some attractive shots through the off side and over square leg. His 32 off 19 balls included two sixes and three boundaries.
Just when he looked ready to push on, Pat Cummins struck again. Kartik mistimed a short ball and was caught at sweeper cover.
Ruturaj Gaikwad Struggles for Fluency Ruturaj Gaikwad played the anchor role but never quite found his rhythm.
The CSK skipper managed 15 runs from 21 deliveries. He tried to accelerate against Cummins but picked out Eshan Malinga in the deep.
It was not a fluent innings, but it allowed others around him to play with freedom.
Dewald Brevis Changes the Game Dewald Brevis was the standout performer for Chennai.
He looked comfortable from the moment he arrived and played with a mix of power and control. Brevis punished anything short and targeted both Pat Cummins and Nitish Kumar Reddy.
His innings of 44 from 27 balls featured four sixes and two boundaries.
A half-century seemed certain, but Eshan Malinga bowled him with a skiddy delivery in the 18th over.
Even so, Brevis had already shifted the momentum firmly in CSK's favour.
Shivam Dube Provides Valuable Support At the other end, Shivam Dube contributed a useful 26 off 23 balls.
He was not at his most explosive but played a few trademark shots, including a towering six over long-on.
Dube and Brevis added an important partnership that took CSK beyond the 150-run mark.
Sakib Hussain eventually dismissed Dube with another well-disguised slower ball.
Late Cameo Pushes CSK to 180 Prashant Veer added a quick 11 off 9 balls at the death, including two boundaries.
His short cameo helped Chennai reach 180/7 in 20 overs, a total that looked competitive on a Chepauk surface offering some grip for the bowlers.
SRH Bowlers Who Impressed Sunrisers Hyderabad used their variations smartly, especially on a pitch where slower deliveries were effective.
Pat Cummins The SRH captain led from the front with figures of 3 wickets and key breakthroughs.
Sakib Hussain One of the most impressive bowlers of the innings, Sakib mixed pace brilliantly and removed Urvil Patel and Shivam Dube.
Eshan Malinga Malinga bowled with good control and claimed the crucial wicket of Dewald Brevis.
Can SRH Chase 181? A target of 181 is challenging but certainly within reach for Sunrisers Hyderabad.
With explosive players like Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan and Heinrich Klaasen in the batting lineup, SRH have the firepower to chase this down if they get a strong start.
At the same time, CSK will feel confident with bowlers like Noor Ahmad and Akeal Hosein expected to exploit home conditions.
Final Thoughts Chennai Super Kings recovered well after losing wickets at regular intervals and posted a solid total of 180/7.
Sanju Samson set the tone, Kartik Sharma maintained the tempo, and Dewald Brevis played the defining innings of the match.
Whether this total proves enough will depend on how well CSK handle SRH’s explosive batting unit.
One thing is certain: Brevis once again showed why he is becoming one of the most exciting young batters in world cricket.
