What Is Proteinuria? Proteinuria is a medical condition in which an abnormal amount of protein is present in the urine. Normally, the kidneys filter waste products and excess fluids from the blood while keeping important proteins in the body. When the kidneys’ tiny filtering units become damaged or weakened, protein may leak into the urine, resulting in proteinuria.
Understanding Proteinuria is important because it can sometimes be an early warning sign of kidney disease. Several factors can cause this condition, including diabetes, high blood pressure, infections, kidney disorders, or certain medications. In some cases, temporary proteinuria may also occur due to dehydration, fever, stress, or intense physical activity.
One of the most common signs of proteinuria is foamy or bubbly urine. However, many people may not notice symptoms in the early stages. Doctors usually diagnose the condition through simple urine tests. Early detection and proper treatment can help manage proteinuria and protect overall kidney health.
