As teams invest more time in automated testing, measuring the effectiveness of those tests becomes an important consideration. Simply having tests in place does not guarantee that critical logic is being exercised or that failures will be caught early. This uncertainty often leads teams to rely on metrics to guide decisions, and code coverage frequently becomes a reference point when assessing test completeness.

While code coveragenumbers can highlight untested areas, they do not automatically reflect test quality or risk reduction. High percentages may still miss edge cases, incorrect assertions, or flawed logic paths, especially in complex systems. Used thoughtfully, coverage metrics can guide improvement efforts, identify blind spots, and support informed discussions about where deeper validation is needed.

When treated as a signal rather than a goal, coverage data helps teams improve test strategy, balance speed with reliability, and build greater trust in their overall quality process.
