Setting free ringtones on your mobile phone is simple, but it varies slightly depending on your device's operating system. Once you have the audio file, follow these instructions to configure it at sonnerietelephone.org
Step 1: Obtain the Audio File
Before you can set a ringtone, you need to have the audio file on your phone. You can obtain it in several ways:
Download a free ringtone from a website like Zedge or Tones7.
Create your own ringtone from a song or recording using an audio editing app like Ringtone Maker.
Purchase a ringtone from the Google Play Store or the iTunes Store.
Step 2: Set the Ringtone on Your Phone
Once you have the audio file (usually in MP3 format for Android and M4R for iPhone), you can configure it.
On an Android device, open your phone's Settings.
Go to Sounds & Vibration, then tap Ringtone.
In the ringtones list, you'll see an option to add a custom ringtone. This may be a + sign at the top of the screen or an "Add from File" option.
Select the audio file you downloaded, and it will be added to the list so you can set it as your default ringtone.
On an iPhone
The process is a little more rigid and requires the file to be in .m4r format and no longer than 30 seconds.
On a computer: Use iTunes (or Finder on macOS) to transfer the .m4r file to the Sounds section of your device.
On your iPhone: Go to Settings > Sounds & Vibration > Ringtone. Your new custom ringtone will appear at the top of the list.
Select it to activate it.
Tip: Specific ringtone for a contact
For further customization, you can assign a unique ringtone to a contact.
On Android: Open the Contacts app, select the person, tap Edit, then tap Ringtone.
On iPhone: Open the Contacts app, select the person, tap Edit, then tap Ringtone.
